BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 10, 2016) – U.S. Freeskiing pro slopestyle team member Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT) had a great start to the 2017 season with a second-place finish at the Winter Dew Tour on Saturday.
Standing alongside Voisin on the podium were 14-year-old Kelly Sildaru of Estonia in first and Kaya Turski of Canada in third.
The Dew Tour competition format was completely reinvented for 2016. Slopestyle athletes competed in two separate contests - a big air event on Friday, which combined the best two scores of four, and a rail section on Saturday, which took the best score of three. The scores were then combined to determine the overall winner, the greatest possible score being a 200. Though there was apprehension going into the event, riders seemed to enjoy the format, saying that it gave them a chance to focus on individual obstacles vs. an overall slopestyle run.
Voisin, who turns 18 on December 14th, earned the second-place finish by doing well in the big air event and then throwing down some technical skills in the rail section. She landed a leftside 900 tailgrab and rightside 540 in big air for a score of 68.99. Her technical rail run included a change up on the kinked rail, 270 on/off, switch 270 on/270 off and lipslide to switch. With a score of 84.33 on the rails it gave her a combined score of 153.32.
Also doing well for the ladies was Devin Logan (West Dover, VT), who finished fifth, and Keri Herman (Bloomington, MN) was ninth.
Scoring the top finish for the American men was McRae Williams (Park City, UT), who finished 5th. The podium was taken by Henrik Harlaut of Sweden in first, Oystein Braten of Norway in second and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand of Canada in third.
Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) was 10th, Joss Christensen (Park City, UT) 11th, Bobby Brown (Breckenridge, CO) 13th and Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) was 16th.
Maggie Voisin was second with an overall score of 153.32. Big air: (68.99): leftside 900 tailgrab, rightside 540. Rail section (84.33): change up on the kinked rail, 270 on/off, switch 270 on/270 off, lipslide to switch
