SAN CANDIDO, Italy (Dec. 16) – X Games champion John Teller (Mammoth Mountain, CA) led a team of six American men, qualifying second Friday for this weekend's opening FIS Freestyle World Cup ski cross in San Candido. Joe Swensson (Niantic, CT) also qualified for the round of 32 finals. World Cups are set for both Saturday and Sunday in the northeastern Italian resort near the Austrian border.
John Teller had a breakthrough season in 2011, winning X Games and finishing fourth in the FIS World Cup ski cross standings.
Teller is supported as a team member of Ski Cross USA and U.S. Freeskiing.
Five American me were in the qualifying field, no women.
USA Ski Cross, formed in 2010, is dedicated to the promotion of ski cross in America.
U.S. Freeskiing and USA Ski Cross are collaborating on athletic projects including development camps, selection and other support.
